The weather may have kept us indoors, but don’t worry the Gatsby’s Jukebox Band have been hard at work preparing some exciting new tunes for the next season. What with being one of the premier Gatsby theme bands London has to offer, we’ve got to make sure our set list stays as strong as possible!
Ever wondered how we give contemporary tunes that Post Modern Jukebox treatment? Well, read on for some hints and tips on how to transform a current pop favourite to the Gramophone sound of Gatsby.
1. CHANNEL THE GREATS
We love referencing singers and performers of old and bringing their performance and style to life. Cab Calloway’s ‘Minnie the Moocher’ is our inspiration for our new version of Nelly Furtado’s Man Eater. What did we do before You tube? How many hours do we spend watching our favourite musicians online? Countless!
2 WE LOVE PMJ
If you need a little inspiration, you need look no further than Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox. We are constantly inspired by their retro take on the latest chart hits and have some of their world famous repertoire ready to go. We are going to see their fantastic show live at Roundhouse in London - vintage swing on a global scale, we are so excited!
3. WHAT’S THE POINT?
Each number has to have an idea behind it, and a chance to join in, is it a dance or something you can sing along to? Participation is key, with this in mind we are so excited to be preparing some extra special numbers for our next public concert performance at the beautiful Bandstand on the seafront in Eastbourne. Come and see us!
4. AT THE MOVIES
We’ve nodded to ‘Singing in the Rain’, and Tarantino already in oour repertoire. Now we can’t wait to perform some of our new material from the latest films. ‘The Greatest Showman’ has us particularly excited, a vintage setting and modern music is another way that retro and contemporary themes combine to create wonderful music and style. Look out for our new Disney style swing number, ‘Let It Go’ perfect for this frosty weather.
5. GET YOURSELF A MARVELOUS MAESTRO
Joe our 'King of Swing' is hard at work in the studio arranging some of our favourite well known tunes. He gets to work producing the music, Kate adds the vocals and off we go, our songs are set in motion and everyone in the band starts learning and preparing their performance, next stop - the rehearsal room to bring the ideas to life and then the new songs will be live onstage! Joe works with a number of amazing artists across the UK and Europe, do you want to hear some of his work? You can check him out here.
So there you have it! Hopefully, we'll get to see you at a show very soon!
