Guess what!? We love being the alternative wedding band of choice for so many couples; especially playing the first dance, seeing all the fantastic newlyweds we’ve met along the way stepping out on the dance floor always makes us smile.
Whether you have a big performance planned or something a little more low key, we will be there to make sure it all runs smoothly! Sometimes we play the song live, or if you prefer we can play the original version you know and love through our PA.
Every couple is different and chooses a whole variety of things, we are there to help you create that unforgettable moment. Even though we are a London wedding band with a jazzy, post-modern jukebox style, we don't have to perform in our jazzy vintage style. Just let us know what you want and we will prepare something special.
Here's a few suggestions from some recent newlyweds, and some band members too!
Claire (For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder): ‘My husband chose our first dance song, he said it came on the radio and it instantly made him think about us. It just struck the right chord for us. He played it to me one day in the car and I could imagine us dancing to it on our wedding day and burst in to tears, happy tears. Decision made’.
Dale (A Moment Like This by Leona Lewis): ‘My husband and I are both singers so we actually sang the first verse of our first dance before we took to the floor, then danced the rest to the original. The words were so important to us and we just love the song’
Charlotte, our drummer (Young and beautiful by Lana Del Ray): Our very first wedding that Gatsby’s Jukebox ever played was on a river boat on the Thames. The bride was a superb dancer and choreographed one of the best routines I’ve ever seen! Because the dance was very rehearsed we played the original song and were able to watch. It was wonderful!
Louise (Eternal Flame- The Bangles): ‘Ours was a song that I sang at karaoke on one of our first dates, I hadn’t told him I’d put my name in to do it! We played the original recording, it was really special.’
Joe our trumpet player (Nobody Does it Better by Carly Simon): My absolute favourite was a James Bond classic. Very classy choice. And then we were able to do it all again at the Tooting Tram and Social on NYE where we played a Bond themed casino night! I think that song was very 007!
Jo (Stand by Me by Ben E. King): 'It’s a song we both love and we always sing it to each other! We had a live band but we had the Ben E. King version playing as we love his voice’.
Wayne, our pianist (Your song by Elton John): Quite often the songs people choose for a first dance have lovely piano parts, we’ve played John Lennon and Elton John Classics. It’s great for me as a pianist and some of these ballads sound stunning with live piano.
Lianne (Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Andy Williams): My husband Steve used to sing it to me! I think he was inspired by Heath Ledger in ‘10 things I hate about you’ I loved it!'
Kate, our singer: 'Ed Sheeran is hugely popular for that first dance moment, he always seems to manage to write songs that tug at your heart strings.'
Not sure what to pick, Spotify have playlists galore to help you find the right song. This is a particularly good one!
The most important thing is this - Don’t be nervous: On the big day you will be surrounded by smiles and everyone will be cheering you on. If you don’t want to be on the dance floor by yourselves for too long, we can invite your guests up to join you as soon as you want.
Don’t worry, we’ve got you, it’s going to be great ;) Good luck Xx
